Communication Doesn’t Have to Be So Complicated

Are you and your partner experiencing a feeling a loss in your connection or decreased intimacy? Perhaps you and your partner are having trouble communicating, are not on the same page with the mental or physical load, finances or infidelity. The resentment is just building and building and you can’t seem to get past even the smallest issues.

Maybe you’re noticing you and your partner:

  • cannot stop arguing

  • can’t seem to find a resolution

  • are not speaking the same language

  • are not feeling supported or heard

  • are stuck at an impasse

“For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

WHAT IS COUPLES COUNSELING?

Through couples counseling, I can help you feel heard and understood, start speaking the same language, and let go of resentments so you can feel comfortable with intimacy again. I can help you and your partner work through these challenges in your relationship. I will provide a safe space for both you and your partner to express your feelings, improve communication, and learn practical skills to strengthen your bond and resolve conflicts. I will guide you in exploring your dynamics and finding constructive ways to navigate your issues together.

During our sessions you will learn skills to communicate difficult or uncomfortable topics with ease and understanding. You will learn these skills, practice them in session, and be assigned homework to practice them on your own. The goal is to get rid of me! Learn how to communicate on your own in a productive and solution focused manner.

I utilize a structured format for couples counseling that provides step-by step 12 session format as follows:

FAQS

Common questions about therapy for couples

  • Couples counseling tends to be brief and solution focused. Sessions will likely include some individual sessions with each partner and both partners together. There will be some discomfort in some sessions to observe communication styles as well as learning and role playing communication skills and problem solving. This can be uncomfortable as you are learning a new way to communicate. Trust the process.

  • Couples therapy may last anywhere from a few weeks to several months. Short-term interventions typically involve about 8 to 12 sessions, with each session lasting 45 minutes to an hour. It could also last longer for deeper issues or if additional issues arise. The goal is to provide skills so the couple can learn to work through them on their own.

  • The American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists reports an overall success rate of 98%.
